This day at the heart of the Aubrac plateau provides firsthand impressions of the local traditions and culture, whom the most celebrated is the transhumance. Your itinerary leads to the authentic village of Aubrac with its ruins of an ancient hospital-monastery built for pilgrims travelling on the Ways of Saint James, and then to the dynamic village of Laguiole where traditional blacksmith and knifemaking technics is very much acclaimed. The visit of a local workshop is more than necessary to understand why this very simple shepherd’s knife became France’s most famous knife. Unique natural sites along the way, such as the Deroc waterfall or the Peyre promontory, will provide interesting photo opportunities. You may also take some time to recharge you battery at La Chaldette, a thermal and health resort located at 1000m high (3280 feet), and maybe enjoy a spa session. Let’s not forget to taste the famous Laguiole cheese and to enjoy a local unmissable lunch (not included) comprised of the aligot dish, a mix of potatoes and local cheese. We highly encourage you to have lunch in a buron, as it is an essential part of the Aubrac visit and a rich experience watching the locals make the aligot in front of you.
