PRICE, starting at: $1199 (USD) per person

5 DAYS / 4 NIGHTS

Going over the top!

NAME OF THE TOUR: “CANADA IN WWI (1914-1918)”

ITINERARY (this tour starts and ends in PARIS):

During this very moving tour, you will experience:

  • - Beaumont-Hamel and Courcelette Memorial
  • - Vimy Ridge, Hill 70
  • - Ypres, Tyne Cot, Paschendale

D1 – DEPART TOWARDS THE NORTH OF FRANCE, PERONNE In SOMME

Meet & greet by your tour director in Paris at 9am. Board your 9-seater mini-van and travel to the forest of Compiegne where the Germans surrendered in 1918, before arriving in Peronne. Afternoon visit of the Historial de la Grande Guerre. Dinner included tonight. Overnight (D).

D2 – BEAUMONT-HAMEL & COURCELETTE CANADIAN MEMORIAL

Pay respect to the fallen soldiers of the Newfoundland Regiment at Beaumont-Hamel before going to the Courcelette Canadian Memorial. The visit of the giant Lochnagar Crater, dedicated to all who suffered during WWI will be revealing. Overnight in Arras. (B).

D3 – VIMY RIDGE, INTERNATIONAL MEMORIAL

The site at Vimy Ridge is exceptional and not to be missed. See for yourself the site of the most celebrated military victory of Canadian forces during WWI. Hill 70, not far from Vimy Ridge, an objective with a crucial importance according to LG Currie, was fought over and won in August 1917.

In the afternoon, the visit of the International Memorial next to the French Necropole of Notre Dame de la Lorette is a tribute to the 580 000 soldiers who died during WWI in the region. All names are listed in alphabetic order (without distinction of nationality, rank or religion). Drive to Ypres in Belgium for overnight. Dinner included tonight. (B, D)

D4 – YPRES, PASSCHENDALE

The day starts at Passchendale, one of the sites that embodies the horror of the fighting and the very little meaning of it. After visiting the Passchendale museum, we turn to Tyne Cot Cemetery, the largest Commonwealth War Graves cemetery in the world. Ypres is now, of course, entirely rebuilt. Known as Leper in Flemish, the region of Ypres is as important as Verdun, the Somme and the Marne to the First World War. At 8pm, we will attend the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing. Overnight in Ypres. (B)

D5 – RETURN TO PARIS

In the morning, explore the In Flanders Fields Museum, before driving back to Paris. Departure from Ypres at 2pm. First drop off at CDG Airport at around 5pm (for customers with a hotel reservation at CDG). Second drop-off at Paris Montparnasse train station at around 6:30pm. (B).
